Description: gold plated sterling, rhinestones
Marked: Corocraft Sterling with Pegasus
Reference: This is the logo of Elizabeth Arden's 'Blue Grass' Perfume - a reference to the blue grass of Kentucky, and Arden's love of racehorses. The perfume, introduced in 1935, first acquired this logo about Feb 1939. A similar pin design (reproduced below) was patented by Florence N Lewis, resident of NYC, not assignor to any company, filed Oct 1940, granted Apr 1941. This pin is in fact closer to the actual Arden logo than the patent, lacking the branches in that design - compare the Arden advertisement in the St Louis Post Dispatch, 10 Dec 1944 p 75; click thumbnail above to view. Use of sterling dates this pin to about 1944, probably part of a co-production by Coro with Elizabeth Arden. For other examples of Coro's co-ops and advertising with cosmetics firms, see COR1436 (Chen Yu) and COR1789 (Revlon)
